Types of boom heads and their purpose:
Mechanical boom head (BH).
Gripping by means of a mechanical clamp (e.g. cam or threaded clamp).
It is used for gripping pump rods with solid or damaged ends.
Spring-loaded rod head (SP)
Equipped with a spring mechanism for gripping and holding the pump rod.
It is used when retrieving rods with broken or uneven ends.
Operating principle of the rod-heads:
Lowering the tool into the well to the location of the broken pump rod.
Grabbing the rod with a mechanical or spring-loaded retainer.
Securing the broken rod in the tool to prevent it from falling.
Retrieval of the boom to the surface with subsequent disassembly of the emergency situation.
