ROAD HEADS

Types of boom heads and their purpose:

  • Mechanical boom head (BH).
Gripping by means of a mechanical clamp (e.g. cam or threaded clamp).
It is used for gripping pump rods with solid or damaged ends.

  • Spring-loaded rod head (SP)
Equipped with a spring mechanism for gripping and holding the pump rod.
It is used when retrieving rods with broken or uneven ends.

Operating principle of the rod-heads:

  • Lowering the tool into the well to the location of the broken pump rod.
  • Grabbing the rod with a mechanical or spring-loaded retainer.
  • Securing the broken rod in the tool to prevent it from falling.
  • Retrieval of the boom to the surface with subsequent disassembly of the emergency situation.

Advantages of using boom heads:

  • Allow for quick retrieval of broken pump rods
  • Reduce repair costs and minimize well downtime
