OVERSHOT

Main functions of the overshot:

  • Extraction of broken or stuck objects:
The overshot is used to capture and lift various objects that are left in the well after emergencies, such as broken drill pipe, tools or parts.

  • Tool and equipment trapping:
It is used to retrieve tools that may be accidentally lost or stuck during drilling or operation, such as bits, drill heads and other parts.

  • Preventive measure for emergencies:
The Overshot helps prevent further complications and equipment damage by restoring normal well penetration.

Design and operating principle:

  • The main element is a gripping mechanism with collets designed to fix the object.
  • The overshot is attached to the drill string and lowered into the well.
  • Upon contact with a broken or stuck object, the tool grips it, providing a secure grip to lift it to the surface.

Overshot types:

  • Collet Overshot:
Used to grip pipes and other cylindrical objects with smooth surfaces.

  • Cam Grip Overshot:
Used for more difficult objects such as parts with uneven or damaged surfaces.

Advantages of the overshot:

  • Allows efficient recovery of objects left in the well with minimal damage.
  • Quickly responds to emergencies and reduces downtime.
  • Provides a secure grip under difficult operating conditions.
  • Easy to use and versatile for different types of objects.
